What are digital home phones?

First, it’s important to understand what a digital home phone is. In a discussion of digital home phones, you may hear the acronym “DECT” which stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology. With a digital home phone, you have one “base station” - usually a place where one phone is stored and charged when not in use. Then, you can have multiple telephones in other locations—as many as you need or want. These handsets can all access the same line. The best part about digital home phones is that there are no cords for any of the phones. The only device that needs a cord is the base station.

Why are digital home phones so much better?

Compared to yesterday’s analogue phones, digital home phones are light years ahead. Here’s why. First of all, the quality of sound is much better. Whereas analogue devices had static, crackling, break-ups, and unclear reception, you can expect crystal clear quality all of the time from a digital home phone. Plus, you don’t have to mess with cords. No more cord tangles or being tied down to one location. You can roam anywhere, all the while getting that great crystal clear reception. But that’s just the start. Because digital home phones use digital technology, you can know who’s calling you (caller ID), dial friends with the touch of one button (speed dial), place people on hold temporarily while you take another call (holding), talk to people on multiple lines (conference call), have people record messages for you to listen to later (voice mail), know when you’re receiving a call even though you’re on another call (call waiting)…the list goes on and on. Plus, there are the benefits of lighted keypads, shock resistance, handset finding, hands-free talking, etc. The only thing your digital home phone can’t do is fix your breakfast.

What’s next for digital home phones?

DECT technology still has room to grow. Digital home phones are getting cheaper, and finding their way to more places. Digital home phones are spreading to developing countries and more and more businesses. As the Internet’s ubiquitous influence expands, digital home phones will only increase in power and functionality. Many people already use their digital home phones to wake them up in the morning, give them reminder messages, manage their calendars, and enhance home security. Digital home phones are a powerful tool.

So, how do I get one?

You can probably guess that if you don’t yet have a digital home phone, you’re missing out on a versatile and incredible piece of technology. Digital home phones have found their way into millions of households worldwide. For the frustration of outdated analogue technology, there is an easy answer. Find out how easy it is to get digital home phones, and discover how you can get in touch with more power, more ease, and more enjoyment.

Cordless Phones - Buy Online for Great Savings!

Buy Phones and Accessories at Telephones Online

Cordless phones have changed the communication spectrum. Despite the introduction of mobile phones and satellite versions, cordless models are still very popular among the general public. The reason for their massive appeal lies in their easy handling, storage and operations. Cordless phones can easily be distinguished from their base. The base is connected to a phone line, while the phone set, itself is wireless. The cordless phone is a battery charged appliance which is charged by placing the phone set on the cradle (base).

DECT Cordless Phones

The most favoured version of cordless phones are DECTs. According to the press release of the DECT forum in 2003, there were over 120 million units sold at that point. Since the inception of this technology, cordless phones with DECT have seen a staggering rise in sales, every year. By year 2005, over 60 million units were in use, with 53% of the cordless phones utilising DECT technology. It is a preferred choice all over Europe. In Germany alone, over 80% of cordless phones are DECT.

DECT Phones and Digital Phones - The Lowdown!

Category: DECT Phones, Digital Home Phones, Digital Phones
Date published: July 22nd, 2008

Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology phones (DECT phones) are cordless digital phones that can be used to talk around the house. The technology used in earlier cordless phones meant that sound quality was not always very good (particularly when interference from other electronic device was involved). However, DECT phones with their digital phone technology, have great sound quality.

DECT phones have a base station with a single handset, and many DECT phones also allow multiple additional handsets in different areas of the house and, indeed, many DECT phone models come with multiple handsets as standard.

This is ideal if you have teenagers, more than one floor to your house, or just a desire to have a phone in more than one place.  Due to their range, DECT phones are also excellent if you have a large garden and want to take your digital phone outside with you.

The range of digital phones depends on the DECT phone itself. Of course the point of digital phones  is that you can walk about with them and not be tied to a base station. Most digital cordless phones have a range of up to 300 meters, but many new DECT phones have digital technology that is able to expand that range.
You can use digital phones as a “walkie talkie” device to talk to someone else within your house, perfect if you have a big pad or if you don’t like shouting up the stairs!

DECT phones are, of course, powered by internal batteries and the life of digital phones batteries depends primarily on how much you are willing to spend on the digital handset.  More expensive digital phone handsets will permit you to speak for up to 10 hours on a single charge, with a standby time of up to 100 hours (perfect if you prefer to leave your handset on the edge of the sofa rather than in the base station…)  Your DECT phone will have an alert (either audible or visual) that tells you when batter power is low.

If your last experience of the design of digital phones was more than 10 years ago, then you will simply be amazed at the advances that have been made in the design (visual appearance) of DECT phones.
Modern DECT phones are very stylish and come in a range of styles. Some top of the range digital phones now come from some of the leading electronics brands and look as good as other products from the same ranges (albeit with pretty hefty price tags for digital phones).

Aside from design quality, there is not a great deal of difference between the features that can be found on digital phones, although some phones will offer more “mobile phone” type functions (like access to email, sms messaging, etc).  However, that is not to say that all DECT phones are the same. If the sound quality is not crystal clear then extra features or fancy design counts for little. That is the single most important thing to look out for when evaluating digital phones or DECT phones - good sound quality!
